Lucy Hale’s Makeup Artist Remixed the Classic Smoky Eye With This Color

Is it time to retire the classic smoky eye? We wouldn’t go as far as to say “yes,” but we’re always open to equally stunning alternatives. Enter Kelsey Deenihan, the longtime makeup artist of “Pretty Little Liars” star Lucy Hale. One of the coolest looks Deenihan ever crafted on the 28-year-old is without a doubt this one, spotted at last year’s Teen Choice Awards:

And although it’s been months since that red carpet slay, she recommends that same burgundy shade if you want to remix your smoky eye in the New Year. However, keep in mind that you’ll technically need more than one color to pull this off.

In an exclusive tutorial with People, the beauty pro applied the statement look by first applying a sheer layer of burgundy all over the lids, followed by a dark purple shade on the outer corners. To bring both of them together, she went back in with a more pigmented burgundy color along the upper and lower lash lines before blending everything out with a brush.

And of course, no smoky look is complete without a swipe or two of mascara. Deenihan also recommends using a cheek color of the same shade if you don’t have an actual shadow on hand. In fact, she actually used Avon’s True Color Be Blushed Cheek Color in Crushed Berry for this tutorial.

We’d say this is monochromatic makeup done right.

Update: January 23, 2018 at 10:45 a.m.

A week after suggesting she was sexually assaulted in a now-deleted Instagram, Lucy Hale is opening about the #MeToo movement and her experience with sexual misconduct. The 28-year-old actress spoke to Us Weekly about how she never fully understood what sexual harassment felt like until she experienced it herself—something she alluded to in her Instagram.

“To keep it somewhat vague, I think along with a lot of other people we’ve all had our experiences like that and until it’s happened to you, you kind of don’t really understand how it can affect you and everyone around you,” Hale said.

Hale also opened about feeling empowered by hearing other women’s stories about sexual harassment. “I just feel very honored to be around a lot of powerful women that are speaking up about it and I think that’s where the change starts is when people start talking because you never know who’s listening or whose life you can impact,” Hale said. “You know, you see the change happening it’s really an exciting time even though it started from dark times for people, I think the pay off will be extraordinary.”

In an interview with People, Hale echoed the same sentiments, while pointing out that men, as well as women, experience sexual harassment and sexual assault. She applauded victims for speaking out.

“I feel grateful to have people that I look up to that are speaking up about things,” Hale said. “Not just women—I think men have sometimes suffered the same way that women have. And as long as a conversation is going or a conversation has started, which it has, that’s the best thing you could ever ask for because that makes people feel not alone. I think if powerful people can make a difference by speaking up, which they are, that will trickle down hopefully.”

Lucy Hale shared an emotional message on her social media on Thursday leading fans to believe that she was sexually assaulted. The 28-year-old actress posted a cryptic screenshot on her Instagram and Twitter on how she never fully understood the “pain” of sexual assault until last night.

The post, which has since been deleted, detailed how “Pretty Little Liars” actress experienced an unnamed event on Thursday night that led her to understand and empathize with sexual assault victims. “I never understood sexual assault until tonight. I always sympathized, but never felt the pain of it until right now,” Hale wrote. “My dignity and pride was broken. I am completely at a loss of words.”

Hale ended her message with a nod to the #MeToo and #TimesUp movements with a vow on how she “will not let a moment go by” without trying “to make a difference.” “I feel for anyone that has felt this pain that I feel right now,” she wrote. “But I promise. I will not let a moment go by that I don’t try to make a difference.”

Thank you for being brave enough to speak up, you’re strong!” one fan wrote. We’re with these fans and stand with Hale during this trying time.

Fans Think Lucy Hale’s Boobs Were Photoshopped on Instagram

Unfortunately, Lucy Hale‘s relationship with Photoshop didn’t end when she left “Pretty Little Liars.” The 28-year-old actress, who has been outspoken about the drastic editing she faced on the long-running Freeform show, might’ve been Photoshopped again—this time, for her new television show “Life Sentence.”

On Wednesday, Hale shared a picture for her upcoming show on Instagram. The photo showed Hale dressed in a form-fitting yellow t-shirt while holding a giant rain-soaked umbrella. Though there was certainly some airbrushing done to Hale’s pore-less skin and face, fans were concerned with her boobs.

Many suspected that the actress’s breasts were digitally lifted and shaped to make them look perkier and larger. Many fans lambasted “Life Sentence” for editing Hale’s figure, arguing that she’s “perfect the way she is.” Some believed that she looked so unrecognizable that they compared to her a Sim, while asked “Life Sentence” why it felt the need to Photoshop her body. Some comments included:

“Why this Photoshop on your boobs !”

“Lmao her boobs is photoshopped why so fake”

“Why the photoshop?! Lucy is perfect the way she is!! #toomuchboob”

“They photoshopped your photo so much, you look like a sim”

Hale hasn’t commented on the Photoshop accusations, so it’s possible that other factors (lighting, angles, etc.) could be at play for her eyebrow-raising appearance. Still, the fans’ concerns bring up the argument of why the entertainment industry continues to Photoshop women in the public eye. There is nothing wrong with Hale’s body. All bodies are beautiful the way they are, so can we end the Photoshop already?

Lucy Hale Makes the Case for Why Retinol Needs to Be in Your Skin-Care Routine

One look at Lucy Hale’s Instagram and you know that her skin-care routine is no joke. Whether she’s Instagramming herself with a bubble mask or dishing out tips on how to properly shrink pimples, the 28-year-old actress takes care of her skin and it shows. So when we heard that the “Pretty Little Liars” star’s secret to glowing, youthful-looking skin was retinol, our ears immediately perked up.

If you’re not in the retinol game yet, retinol is a vitamin A derivative that aids in cell turnover, collagen stimulation, and elasticity—essentially, everything you want to keep your skin youthful-looking and wrinkle-free. Because of its effect in cell turnover, retinol is also useful in fading hyper-pigmentation, evening out skin tone, and preventing dark spots. Though Hale didn’t reveal what retinol product she uses exactly, the compound can come in creams, serums, or most common, oils.

“I use retinol every night which kind of renews your skin.” Hale said in a recent interview with Hello! magazine.

Along with using retinol every day (the frequency really depends on your skin sensitivity and the product’s strength), Hale, who admitted she’s “super into skin care,” cleanses her skin twice a day and goes to the facialist regularly. “Find a good facialist, that’s my trick,” Hale said.

We’ll be taking Hale’s advice and incorporating retinol into our skin-care routine ASAP. Check back in and hopefully we’ll have glowing, rejuvenated skin like Hale.

That might be the case, but in a sea of platinum, actress Lucy Hale has opted for reddish-brown tips instead. The bold color can be attributed to Kristin Ess who, by the way, has an affordable hair care line out at Target right now. Lucy Hale Posted a Hilarious Throwback Photo of Her Super-Thin Eyebrows

Lucy Hale‘s thick, bushy eyebrows have become synonymous with her look and her career. So to imagine her without them is like telling Kim Kardashian to stop contouring. (It can’t be done!) And though we doubt that the 28-year-old actress will permanently abandon her beautifully bold brows any time soon, we can at least see the dark moment in her life when she thinned them down tremendously, and boy, was that time grim.

Like Kim K. and Drew Barrymore, Hale is the latest celebrity to look back on this embarrassing, yet common, beauty regret: super-thin eyebrows. In a throwback posted on her Instagram story, the “Life Sentence” star reminisced on when her eyebrows used to be two tiny arches. The picture, which was a screenshot of an Instagram posted by Hale’s longtime friend and “American Juniors” competitor Katelyn Tarver, featured Hale, Tarver, and their other friend, Chantel Brunnert, preparing for the 2003 Teen Choice Awards.

And while there’s a lot to talk about in the picture, such as the ladies’ “Charlie’s Angel” pose and their matching Powerpuff Girls-like outfits, what caught Hale’s attention were her crazy-skinny eyebrows. To poke fun of herself, Hale screen-shotted the picture and posted it on her Instagram story with a caption roasting 13-year-old herself for over-plucking her eyebrows.

“15 years ago. At the teen choice awards. My eyebrows y’all,” Hale wrote along with three laughing emojis. “Thank u @katelyntarver for sharing this content w the world.”

Lucy Hale has nothing to hide—literally and figuratively. After seven years on “Pretty Little Liars,” the 28-year-old actress has bared every detail, secret, and skeleton in front of audiences, and now, she’s taking that transparency to her Instagram feed.

On Monday, the “Life Sentence” star posted a no-makeup selfie sure to stop you in your tracks. (Or at least pause your Instagram scrolling.) The stunning, makeup-free picture showed Hale outside with wild, tousled red hair and a face bare of any makeup. But aside rom Hale’s wavy, just-left-the-beach lob, the real stars of the Instagram were her dark circles and unconcealed eyes.

Without a drop of makeup on her face, Hale gave her a followers a full glimpse of her under-eye area—because, hey, celebrities have dark circles and eye bags, too. The makeup-free shot inspired dozens of Hale’s followers to write comments like “never wear makeup again” and “natural beauty.”

Lucy Hale Dyed Her Hair Golden-Blonde, and It’ll Be Your New Spring Color

Lucy Hale pulled a Selena Gomez and went blonde. Two months after feeling inspired by Gomez’s nine-hour, “Nirvana”-blonde hair color, the 28-year-old actress made the jump and became a golden-blonde bombshell. Needless to say, she looks good. “I saw Selena [go blonde] and she looked so good. I was like ‘Yes!’ That was good inspiration,” Hale told People in January.

The “Pretty Little Liars” star debuted her new look on Thursday with a seductive, smizing Instagram selfie that even Tyra Banks would approve of. The picture featured Hale staring into the camera’s soul with her hazel-green eyes, while showing off her significantly lighter hair color.

From the looks of it, Hale’s hair color—which was done by celebrity hairstylist Kristin Ess (who has also worked on the heads of stars like Lauren Conrad and Jenna Dewan Tatum)—starts dark at the actress’s roots and gradually transitions to a lighter, more sun-kissed color. “Get to spend the day with my blonde angel and her cute updo,” Ess captioned a selfie of Hale’s just-dyed hair.

But don’t fall too much in love with Hale’s hair color yet. According to Ess, the color isn’t complete. In her Instagram comments, a fan asked Ess how she prevented Hale’s hair from turning red, considering the actress is a natural brunette. In her response, Ess was completely honest, telling the fan that she’s going extremely slow with dyeing Hale’s hair and that she’s still in the process of add more warmth to the color. (Makes sense considering Hale dyed her hair red in March, perhaps a a transition color)

“We’re going very slow. It takes a lot of time. Believe me, we’re still working through warmth,” Ess wrote back to a fan.

Lucy Hale has experimented with many beauty looks. Whether she’s dyeing her hair from red to blonde or face-palming over her crazy-thin eyebrows from the mid ’00s, the 28-year-old actress is always open and honest about the many beauty looks she test-drives—regardless if they’re hits or misses. Her latest beauty adventure? The world of self-tanning.

On Monday, the “Pretty Little Liars” star shared an Instagram photo of her self-bronzed body. The photo featured Hale smizing at the camera while rocking sun-kissed skin that looked a couple—OK, a few—shades darker than what she normally is. Though Hale’s Instagram was flooded with comments on how “stunning” she looked, the “Life Sentence” star suggested that the tan was a little too dark for her liking. In her caption, Hale vowed that she will “never” be that tan again—whether through natural or artificial causes.

“I will never be this (fake) tan again in my life 🌞,” Hale said.

Lucy Hale is no stranger to celebrity look-alikes. In her two-ish decades in show business, she has been mistaken for Rachel Bilson, Maisie Williams, Kylie Jenner, Sarah Hyland, and Selena Gomez—whom she is guilty of pretending to be to not disappoint fans. But her latest doppelgänger is someone that even the most eagle-eyed fans never expected: Khloé Kardashian.

On Saturday, the 28-year-old actress sparked Kardashian look-alike rumors when she posted a very Khloé-like Instagram selfie. The picture, taken ahead of Hale’s appearance at New York Beauty Con, featured her in a skin-tight red dress with her brown-ish blonde lob slightly wavy and parted down the middle.

“Omg you look like KhloeK”

Lucy Hale is living her best life. Since ending a long and grueling press tour for two movies, “Dude” and “Truth or Dare,” and one TV show, “Life Sentence,” the 28-year-old actress has been enjoying much-needed vacations in Arizona and Cambodia. And because no trip is complete without a spontaneous decided, Hale chose to commemorate her time in Cambodia with a permanent tattoo of an adorable elephant.

The elephant-tattoo saga began on Wednesday when the “Pretty Little Liars” actress announced on her Instagram that she and her friends would all receive tattoos. In a clip with her “Life Sentence” costar, Elliot Knight, Hale asked Knight what they were about to do. Here’s how the conversation went.

“Elliot, what are we about to do?”

“We about to get some tattoos!”

“Sorry, mom.”

And Hale kept her promise. Later stories showed Hale in a tattoo parlor with an artist inking a tiny, coin-sized elephant on the upper part of her forearm, near where her arm bends. Hale’s Instagram story also featured a video of her asking the artist to make the elephant’s trunk a teensy bit longer. “Tattooooo time,” she captioned the video.

Judging from Hale’s Instagram story, it seems like every tourist in Cambodia is inking tiny elephants on their bodies, and it’s making us itch for one too. Cute tat, Lucy!

Lucy Hale is an undeniable hair chameleon. But after months as a redhead and a blonde, she’s finally returning to her chocolate brown roots—and boy, will “Pretty Little Liars” fans be happy with her new color. The 29-year-old actress, who has been sporting dirty blonde hair since March, recently dyed it dark chocolate brown, and her color is giving us major Aria Montgomery vibes.

The “Life Sentence” star debuted her new color on Tuesday with an Instagram story of her showing off her much-darker locks. In a series of pictures and videos, Hale can be seen with a head of all-brown hair. Unlike her previous hair colors, which used highlights and lowlights to create pretty ombré effects, Hale left her hair all one color: dark brown.

The actress, who has been sporting a shoulder-length lob for the past few months, also seemed to have trimmed her hair into neat and petite chin-length bob. (Though in one video she appeared to be wearing extensions for upcoming project.) Check out the striking before-and-afters below.

No matter what color she’s rocking, Hale looks stunning. Guess that’s the result of true hair chameleon.

Self-Care on the Move

[Self-care] can be so many different things. Obviously, physically taking care of yourself, but I think mentally and emotionally is equally as important. My mom has always taught me to be the best version of myself, so she instilled that in me. But you also learn new things about yourself as you get older. That just comes with age and experience. At 29 years old, I’ve figured out what works for me and what doesn’t. For me, my lifestyle is so on the go and it’s constantly changing, so for me, it’s about the tiny moments during the day that I sort of have to pause and breathe. My favorite things revolve around skin care. I definitely splurge on facials and massages. I have a facialist; her name is Molly Lucio. I see her almost every week just to maintain. I kind of let her do her own thing, from lasers to peels and LED light to muscle tightening. When I’m just chillin’ at home, I am a huge face mask lover. I’ll pop on a couple and watch TV. That’s my dream day. SkinCeuticals has this detox clay mask that’s really amazing. They also have a B5 mask for hydrating.

Fitting in Fitness

I am a huge fan of exercise. I genuinely enjoy it. Not just because of the physical aspects, but it’s my therapy in a way, so I never skip out on it. I typically work out in the morning, and when I have a day off, that’s definitely on top of my list. I take classes like SoulCycle. I also have two personal trainers, depending on their schedules. They’re incredible with high-intensity circuit training. It’s about mixing things up, keeping me on my toes.

Lucy Hale & Sarah Hyland Called Out a Site Who Mistook Them for One Another

Like dozens of other teen-favorite stars, Lucy Hale spent her Sunday at the 2018 Teen Choice Awards where she walked the red carpet in a cool jeweled dress and green eye makeup. Sarah Hyland, on the other hand, was miles away at home. Yet somehow she was also at the Teen Choice Awards—at least, according to one very confused fashion site.

On Monday, Fashion Vixen, a fashion-themed Instagram with almost 90,000 followers, shared their favorite looks from the Teen Choice Awards. One of the looks included Hale’s. However, instead of tagging the Pretty Little Liars star, the Instagram mistook her for Hyland and tagged the Modern Family actor instead. This wouldn’t be the first time that Hyland and Hale were mistaken for each other. “There’s a group of girls that all kind of look similar,” Hale told Insider in 2018. “I get Sarah Hyland or Rachel Bilson or Maisie Williams. There’s a crop of us that all have a similar vibe.”

But back to Fashion Vixen. After the Instagram went live (with the wrong tag), the mistake was caught by Hyland who screen-shotted the the error, posted it on her Instagram story tagged Hale. “Hey @lucyhale. I’m pretty sure this is you. Not me,” Hyland wrote. Hale responded with her own screenshot, poking fun at how many times the two have been mistaken for one another. “It keeps getting better,” she wrote, with three laughing-face emojis.

There are hair chameleons, and then there’s Lucy Hale. In the past year, the 29-year-old actor has gone from red to golden blonde to chocolate brown, and it doesn’t look like she’s slowing down any time soon. For her fourth hair swap in 2018, Hale dyed her hair bronde (brown-blonde for the unaware), but don’t get too attached. She’s planning on changing it again soon.

The Pretty Little Liars alum showed off her new hair color on Friday with a selfie on her Instagram story. The picture featured Hale in a salon chair as her longtime hairstylist Kristin Ess made some finishing touches for her now-bronde hair, which was styled in effortless waves, showing off the lighter brown color near her roots and almost-blonde tips. “Phase 1 @kristiness,” Hale captioned the picture.

Ess—who’s responsible for many of Hale’s hair changes, as well as the ‘dos of stars, such as Jenna Dewan and Lauren Conrad—also took to her Instagram to show off the Life Sentence star’s hair.  In an Instagram, Ess revealed that Hale’s bronde was an interim color as she transitions from a dark brunette to a full-on blonde. Ess also gave a tip to those with dark hair who want to go lighter: patience.

“Chameleon AF. The life of an actor can be really hard on the hair. Thank goodness she’s got the face of an angel and the patience of a saint. When going from dark brown to blonde, trust your colorist to do it at the right pace to keep your hair from snapping off. 🖤 next stop: 💇🏼‍♀️” Ess wrote in her caption.

How long will Hale have her bronde hair? We’re not sure. But from the looks of it, it won’t be very long. So we better soak in as much inspo as we can before she dyes it again. Can’t wait to see the blonde, Lucy.

Wearing Suits Without Shirts Is Quickly Becoming the Hottest Trend of 2019

Menswear for women is not a new or hot topic. It’s become increasingly mainstream, and frankly, I’m not mad about it (all clothes should be gender neutral!!). More and more frequently, we’ve see celebrities ditching dresses and gowns for jumpsuits and pantsuits—both on and off the red carpet. Following in the footsteps of this movement is the latest 2019 fashion trend to strike the zeitgeist: suits without shirts.

Certain celebrities can pull off anything, be it a dress that looks like a Sesame Street costume or pants that are so long they literally drag on the floor. But when there’s an ensemble that every celebrity looks hot AF in, I will notice. In this case, that look is pantsuits with no shirt underneath. It doesn’t matter what style of suit, how baggy the jacket or blazer, or the even the color of the thing. Every celebrity I’ve seen sporting this look has looked so good I want to cry.

OK, so, here’s the deal: I first noticed a pattern when Lucy Hale posted several photos of herself clad in various suits starting in December 2018. (I sound like a private investigator looking for hot celebrities, but, like, it’s fine.) While one of the suits did, indeed, have a shirt underneath, one white pantsuit did not, and my journey to unpack this trend began.

Since then, I’ve noticed countless celebs sporting the suit-without-shirt trend—all in different ways. Within the last week, four particularly hot shirtless suit ensembles entered my radar. The first was Shay Mitchell wearing a Kheir Sannai suit in Los Angeles. She looked amazing, obviously, and I bookmarked the ensemble for my files (in a really non-creepy, Pinterest kind of way).

Next, model Emily Ratajkowski tried her hand at the look in a pinstripe suit ensemble I feel truly blessed to have seen.

On Wednesday, Rita Ora stepped out in not one, but two suits sans shirt. Wearing two hot-ass suit looks in one day is an accomplishment bigger than when I won first place for handwriting in second grade. (It was a big deal at the time, OK?)

That takes us to Thursday, where my High School Musical idol, Vanessa Hudgens, rocked a striped shirtless pantsuit all night long. I thought Troy Bolton was my fairytale, but it was really Gabriella Montez all along.

As I said earlier, most of these shirtless suit looks were just in the last week. Suits without shirts is quickly becoming the most noticeable trend of 2019, and I am seated happily on the bandwagon.

Lucy Hale Imagines What Aria’s Storyline Would Be on the ‘Pretty Little Liars’ Spinoff

It’s been two years since the end of Pretty Little Liars, but Lucy Hale has been keeping busy. She’s filmed a show, several movies, went on vacation and taken care of her mental health. Still, with the news of a Pretty Little Liars spinoff in the works for Freeform, fans are wondering: Will Lucy Hale appear on The Perfectionists?

“As of now, I don’t have any plans, but I feel like that show will go on for a while, so we’ll see,” Hale tells StyleCaster at an event for Honey Nut Cheerios’ Good Rewards program, in which families can earn points for one of three celebrities: Hale, Michael B. Jordan or The Gronk, with the winner earning $100,000 for their charity of choice. (“I’m in second place right now and Michael B. Jordan is in first, so I really think I’m going to knock him down to second place,” says Hale, whose charity is the ASPCA.)

And while Hale doesn’t have plans to star on The Perfectionists (which follows PLL’s Alison DiLaurentis and Mona Vanderwaal in a new mystery-shrouded town), she does have an idea for where her character, Aria Montgomery, is now. “What is Aria up to? It’s been so long that I don’t even remember where we left off,” Hale says. “She’s probably in the woods, in a cabin, hopefully living her best life. She loves writing. Maybe she’s writing a novel. No, she’s probably a very successful novel-writer, and she’s really rich with a castle and a lot of cats.”

Though Hale isn’t returning, two of her PLL costars, Ashley Benson and Troian Bellisario, are coming back to direct episodes of The Perfectionists, which Hale is interested in doing as well, once she learns more about directing. “My focus is more on acting still and producing, but I definitely have interest there,” Hale says. “What’s so cool is they’ve kept it in the family and brought back Ashley and Troian to direct. I just don’t know enough about it yet, but if I educated myself, maybe we’ll check in in five years and see.”

As for if she’s spoken to her third PLL costar, Shay Mitchell, since she revealed her miscarriage in December, Hale responded, “I haven’t. I don’t speak on behalf of anyone. But I’m always happy when people speak up about things that are important to them.”

It’s really important we check in with ourselves and with each other, because it makes all the difference in knowing we’re not alone.

With 22 million Instagram followers and 7 million more on Twitter, Hale is aware of the voice she has, which is why fans will often see her destigmatizing issues close to her heart, like mental health. “There’s still such a taboo with talking about mental health, and I think it’s really important we check in with ourselves and with each other, because it makes all the difference in knowing we’re not alone, Hale says. “You hear ‘mental health’ and it sounds so daunting and scary. But it’s not. We all have our issues and struggles. I’m proud to talk about it, if anything, so if I can make one person feel less alone, then that’s amazing.”

However, Hale is also aware of the downside of social media and how people can often compare themselves to unrealistic images, which is why she’s conscious of making sure pictures of herself, whether in photoshoots or TV posters, are “as real as possible.” “With social media, it can be a little tricky because you see pictures of people that aren’t realistic, and it’s not necessarily healthy for people to look up to an unrealistic idea of what beauty can be,” Hale says. “Because beauty is in the eye of the beholder. It changes for everyone.”

I’ve always said it’s a ripple effect. When someone feels less alone, they’re more inclined to talk about their story.

As for if she’s felt a shift since the #MeToo movement took force two years ago, Hale says she’s seen a “ripple effect,” but there’s still a “ways to go”—for not only her industry  but every industry. “We’re in a cool time now where women are speaking up about stories they’ve been harboring for a while,” Hale says. “I’ve always said it’s a ripple effect. When someone feels less alone, they’re more inclined to talk about their story. There’s definitely a change within my industry, but it doesn’t only happen in Hollywood. It happens everywhere. There’s definitely a shift, but we still have a ways to go.”
