Ashley Benson Dyed Her Hair Pink for Her 27th Birthday

Pray tell, what did you do on your last birthday? Maybe drank a bit, danced a bit more, took a few zillion pictures, and didn’t make a drastic change to your appearance? Welp, then you clearly aren’t Ashley Benson, who rang in her 27th birthday yesterday with a brand new, bright-pink dye job. Yup, the Pretty Little Liars star (may it R.I.P.) took to Instagram last night to debut her new pink hair, while also wearing a set of cat ears, because why not?

Benson’s caption on the photo: “when you let @findyourCalifornia do this,” referring to the photographer and director Nico Guilis, who we can safely assume moonlights as an amateur hairstylist. This wasn’t the first slightly big-ish change for Benson in 2016—she cut her long, blonde waves into a choppy, layered lob in August, got matching Pretty Little Liars finger tattoos in November, and now, she’s crossed over to the pink side with her new hair color.

Of course, if Benson is anything like the rest of Hollywood—or Lucy Hale, who literally changes her hair every other week—she’ll probably have the pink hue gone by the end of the month and be back to blonde a.s.a.p. But for now, we’ll happily gaze at her cool-girl style and contemplate an existence in which we also have pink hair. Maybe one day… (but probably not).

PSA: Venmo Is a Low-Key Amazing Way to Stalk Celebs

Who else remembers the days before Instagram, when finding any scrap of personal information about a celebrity—an unseen family photo, perhaps, or a clipping from an old high-school yearbook—was akin to digging up gold?

In 2017, there’s a veritable ocean of information online, and finding anything novel out there that a hundred tween fans haven’t already discovered is about as likely as Kylie Jenner renouncing selfies.

But, there is one platform that remains (mostly) uncharted territory: Venmo. The social payment app is where most of us go to send rent money to our roommates, split cab fare with our coworkers, or hit a friend back for that last round of drinks—and, it turns out, this is one area where stars are, in fact, just like us! A few weekends ago, on a particularly lazy Saturday, a friend tipped me off to the fact that Venmo-stalking doesn’t just extend to exes and prospective partners—you can just as easily track down Hollywood randos or Victoria’s Secret models and waste a few hours perusing their spending habits and contact lists.

Are you going to find any groundbreaking information? Probably not—well, unless you consider Kellan Lutz’s NBA betting habits or Dianna Agron’s favorite emojis to be essential knowledge, that is. But there is a bit of a thrill in finding an app not painstakingly controlled by public relations reps and image specialists—and starting from an easily-searchable celebrity and hop-scotching your way through their contacts to a Hadid or a Hemsworth does have a certain scavenger-hunt appeal.

Now, who cares who Brody Jenner is tipping for “an epic handy,” you ask? Well I’m guessing you at least *kind of* do, considering you clicked on this article—plus, amid the array of “Who? Weekly” candidates in most celebrity friend lists, there are a few gems. I was surprised to find, for instance, that notoriously social-media shy Kristen Stewart is on there (if only to pay her hairstylist “For baby.”) And my 16-year-old self would be tickled at the discovery of Mischa Barton’s profile, even if she’s not exactly an A-lister these days.

If you’re feeling particularly daring, you can also send money to your favorite stars—my friend tipped Penn Badgley a dollar for his winning performance in “John Tucker Must Die” (alas, he has yet to accept) and I’ve been mulling the idea of sending Joshua Jackson a lil’ something—maybe with a few 😘 😘 😘 emojis in the note—just to see if anyone I’m friends with notices.

Uh, Ashley Benson Just Dyed Her Hair Platinum Blonde

$

In a shocking twist of events (*insert sarcasm, here*), Ashley Benson just debuted yet another drastic hair change for the billionth time in the last 12 months, and, yes, we’re totally into it, as per usual. Benson, along with her Pretty Little Liars co-stars and BFFs (we’re looking at you, Lucy Hale, who we’re pretty sure is Sabrina The Teenage Witch in disguise based on how frequently she alters her hair color), is known among the beauty world for consistently changing her hair, like chopping her long waves into a textured lob back in August, before dying her waves strawberry pink for a brief, four-week stint last month. And though we’re only a few weeks into 2017, Benson has already blessed us with her latest hair experiment: platinum blonde.

The actress ditched her pink waves (above) and revealed her new white-blonde shade in a selfie posted to Instagram yesterday afternoon while wearing a white, long-sleeve t-shirt and a hot-pink beanie, and somehow looking cool as hell in clothes we’d usually reserve for laundry day. Her caption on the post: “Sunday vibes w hunny,” tagging celebrity hairstylist Chad Wood, whose clients also include Bebe Rexha, Zendaya, and Sophia Bush.

It’s only been a day since Benson posted her photo, but so far, her fans are equally obsessed with her hair, with one user commenting on her picture, “Love your hair, perfection,” with a few dozen other fans complimenting her on her hair, face, eyes, and general existence. We’re just surprised nobody asked the very obvious question: “How has your hair not fallen out, yet?” (Spoiler: That’s what a celebrity hairstylist does for you—turns even the most dyed, fried hair into curtains of silk.)

Instagram PhotoSource: Instagram

There’s no question—and who are we to judge, anyway?—that Benson is pulling off this platinum dye with aplomb, and we’re pretty positive that she’ll also pull off any other hair color she will inevitably try in the next dozen years. We guess that’s what being a chill, do-what-I-want celebrity gets you. That, and a few thousand Instagram fans proposing marriage to you. But if her hair-changing patterns are anything like they’ve been in the past, don’t get too attached to Benson’s new look, because for all we know, she could reveal jet-black hair tomorrow. And yes, we’d be right back here writing about it, because it’s Ashley freakin’ Benson.

In case you haven’t noticed—but, who are we kidding; you most definitely have—Lucy Hale is living out all our hair fantasies. Based on our social-media feed, it feels like the Pretty Little Liar’s star debuts a completely new hairstyle or hair color practically every month. Because she actually does. Thanks to her BFF status with celeb hairstylists Kristin Ess and Scotty Cunha, who work with Lauren Conrad and the Kardashians, respectively, Hale has gone through a full spectrum of looks overnight (literally; in some cases, it was overnight), like long, honey-hued waves and a choppy pink bob.

OK, serious question: Did we miss the group text about going blonde? (Were you on it? Was Becky on it?!) Because apparently all of Hollywood made the decision to go platinum-blonde without us, and now we’re stuck finding out about each celebrity makeover when we scroll through our Instagram feeds—which is pretty much 20 times a day.

Maybe we’re just pumped to see our Pinterest boards come to life, or maybe we’re all secretly hoping to see a botched makeover on a famous person (hey, we never said our intentions were angelic), but for some reason, celebrity hair transformations have us eagerly refreshing our feeds a billion times a day, waiting to see who gets the next bleach.

But to save you from falling into the same mindless trap that we’re stuck in, we did the digging for you and rounded up our favorite blonde-hair makeovers from the last year, including Lucy Hale’s shaggy blonde bob, and Jennifer Lawrence’s white-blonde waves. These guys make platinum look so good, we’re pretty sure we’ll finally make an appointment with our colorist to try out the trend ourselves. Maybe.

What color is Lucy Hale’s hair? Is it long or short? Is it blonde? Are you sure? Are you absolutely positive? Because she’s been changing her hair so often in the past few years that if you blink, you might actually miss it.

Hale’s go-to hair guru, Kristen Ess, last posted a shot of Hale on her Instagram two weeks ago, when her mahogany locks were styled in a loose, wavy lob. But no more. Hale’s hair is still the same color, but now it’s very, very short—as in, it’s an Anna Wintour–length bob. We’ve never seen her hair this short, and, for the record—it’s rather becoming.

“Different hair & glasses for all my moods,” Hale wrote. Indeed. She also posted a bonus shot of her extra-short chop the same day, living her best life at the dog park. “Pure bliss at the dog park 😛,” she wrote.

Honestly, we’ve seen Hale’s hair move through tons of different iterations, but this just might be our favorite look of hers yet. She looks sophisticated yet casual—and it gives her a cool-girl edge that she’s never had before.

We’re sure this won’t last long, because with Hale’s hair, everything is temporary, but for now, we hope the new chestnut-hued bob is here to stay—for at least a month.

Long before Lucy Hale was Lucy Hale, star of Pretty Little Liars and queen of insanely-cool hair changes (she’s literally cut and colored her hair 13 times in the last few years), she was just a normal, ol’ girl, with normal ol’ hair, and normal ol’ clothes. Basically, Lucy Hale in 2006 was all of us in 2006. And lest you think we’re kidding, we found a photo of Hale from a decade ago, and we are highly entertained.

In the photo, the 17-year-old Hale looks like any of the young, ridiculously youthful girls that were in your high-school class. She’s at the premiere of Surf School (a movie we’ve never heard of, but has a 2/10 rating on IMDB), wearing the iconic wide-band, tube-top shirt that simultaneously squeezed your chest into a double-boob while sagging around your stomach. Ah, fashion.

Still, Hale looks awesome—like, way better than we did in high school—with bronzed skin, non-frizzy hair, and virtually no breakouts. It’s actually kind of unfair. Of course, by this point, Hale had already appeared in Drake & Josh and The O.C., so she wasn’t a *complete* newb at press junkets. Either way, though, we’re incredibly happy this baby-faced photo of Hale exists, and we’re glad that none of our hidden Myspace pictures from 2006 are online for all to see.

Slowly but surely, Lucy Hale is chopping off her hair into oblivion, getting closer and closer to fulfilling our dreams of seeing the Pretty Little Liars star with a shaved head. Because last night, Hale popped up on social media feeds with a decidedly shorter—and darker—bob haircut, very reminiscent to a 1920s flapper, and we’re kind of in love.

Last night, hairstylist Kristin Ess (who regularly transforms the heads of Jenna Dewan Tatum and Lauren Conrad) posted a photo of Hale with a significantly shorter, angled bob, and practically ethereal skin (though that’s more on Hale’s good genes than anything to do with her hair) with the caption: “darker//shorter {@lucyhale debuting that no-layers 90’s bob today. See it in action tomorrow on @theellendshow!}.” Alright, she says ‘90s, we say ‘20s, but either way, Hale has a blast-from-the-past hairstyle, and it’s insanely pretty.

If you’ve ever had hormonal acne—especially cystic acne—you know how mind-numbingly frustrating and anxiety-producing it is. And though yes, most humans deal with the occasional breakout, it can still feel isolating when you’re battling a deep cystic zit that refuses to come to a head. So when we heard that Lucy Hale not only struggles with cystic acne, but also has an intense skin-care routine to battle it, we promptly freaked the hell out.

MORE: OMG: Bella Hadid Just Chopped Off Her Hair and It’s Insane

“The day I turned 21, my skin just went nuts,” said Hale in an interview with Byrdie, noting that she battles hormonal issues and cystic acne breakouts, and only recently found a routine that works. Annoyingly, though, her routine doesn’t include just one miracle product that clears up cystic zits overnight, because sadly, nothing topical ever can (cystic zits are hormone-based, so the only true treatment is either oral birth control, hormone-regulating meds, or a cortisone injection into each individual zit—none of which are without side effects).

Instagram PhotoSource: Instagram

Instead, Hale’s regimen includes the cult-favorite DHC Deep Cleansing Oil—“Double cleansing is what it’s really about for me,” she says, refusing to go to bed with a speck of makeup on—before washing her face with the super-gentle Restorsea Reviving Cleanser and a Clarisonic Mia 2 Cleansing Brush, and layering a “ton of serums,” moisturizers, and eye creams from Is Clinical and SkinCeuticals. Twice a week, Hale also exfoliates with Lancer The Method, a pumpkin- and pomegranate-based scrub, and of course, gets regular facials. “She’s the shit,” said Hale about her facialist Molly M. Lucio at Lasky Aesthetics & Laser Center in Los Angeles. “I’m really diligent about facials. If I can go once a week, I’ll do it.”

So, you know, it’s a process. It also doesn’t hurt that Hale is a mega-celeb with her own team of doctors and derms on-call (at least, we can assume so) to make her skin as awesome as possible, so don’t assume that copying her routine will give you the same results. But if you’re looking for a new routine and you also love Lucy Hale, then bam, you’ve got your new shopping list.

We’re pretty sure that there’s some sort of secret hair contest going on that nobody told us about, but that Lucy Hale is currently winning—a contest for who can have the most hair changes in a set time period. Because in less than a year, Hale has dyed her hair blonde, then added some auburn streaks to it, then chopped off her waves into a legit, ear-length bob, then dyed that bob jet black, and now, Hale has taken to Instagram to show off her new super-piece-y, messy, combover-like (fake) bob, and we’re freaking obsessed.

Really; this isn’t just another ode to Hale’s hair, but maybe one to her bomb-ass hairstylist, Kristin Ess, who is the mastermind behind all of Hale’s major hair changes, both the very permanent hair chops, and the very real-looking fake-outs, like this grungy bob. As Hale captioned the photo she posted to Instagram, “When @kristin_ess knows how to fake an even shorter haircut on you and now you want to actually do it one day …”

Instagram PhotoSource: Instagram

Though we can’t see the back of Hale’s head, we’re guessing that Ess first teased and sprayed Hale’s roots a bit for volume, then rolled and pinned the longest layers to the nape of her neck, before combing over her shorter layers for a swooped effect. Either way, though, Hale’s hair looks seriously cool, and we’re guessing that based on her caption—and the fact that she’s winning the secret contest—she’ll actually get this haircut for real very soon. To which we say, yes, please!

Lucy Hale Apologized for Calling Herself “Fat” on Instagram

Update: June 20: 12:00 p.m. EST

After the Internet slammed her for calling herself “fat” on Instagram, Lucy Hale took to twitter to issue an apology.

The 28-year-old actress, who faced a firestorm when she labeled herself as “fat” in a Father’s Day throwback on Sunday, explained that she sometimes forgets she’s in the public eye and has fans who can see her every move.

She also apologized for setting a poor example to young girls who follow her, and vowed to do better.

Original story: June 19: 9:30 a.m. EST

Like most 20-somethings on Father’s Day, Lucy Hale celebrated her dad by sharing a throwback photo of them on Instagram. The picture, a snap of the 28-year-old and her dad at a wedding, was captioned with a sweet message for Hale’s father: “You taught me to have soul. I love you daddy.”

Seems fine enough, right? That is until you read the comment Hale tacked onto her post: “ugh I was so fat.”

There are so many things wrong with Hale’s comment, which was a response to something her friend, Scotty Cunha, said. For one, Hale is not fat in the slightest in the photo, and labelling her body as so perpetuates unrealistic body standards. Secondly, by including the word “ugh,” Hale suggests her disgust at the idea of being fat, which is really just a body type and nothing more. (Reminder: Fat and attractive are not mutually exclusive.)

Like us, the actress’s followers also took offense to her caption, with many scolding the “Pretty Little Liars” star for setting a poor example on body image for her young fans.

“Fat? That’s what you take away from this beautiful photo of you and your dad? You weren’t, and even if you were, who cares?” one person commented. “How many young girls follow you, and have now seen this? Sigh.

“Fat? You look a healthy size. Joking or not, you should be aware if your audience and recognize that kids look up to you and when trying to emulate you they could possibly be looking in the mirror saying, ‘ugh, I’m so fat,'” another added.

MORE: Fact: Lucy Hale Gets Cystic Acne, and This is How She Treats It

However, many followers pointed out that Hale used to suffer from an eating disorder, when she said she “would go days without eating” or simply eat fruit before going to gym for “three hours.”

“You have to understand that we are talking about a person that has struggled with self love and eating disorders in the past. What looks normal for us, might look fat for her,” one follower explained. “I don’t think she was trying to say that if you’re fat, you’re ugly or something like that. Just that she didn’t like her body at that time. She can’t act like she has a perfect life just because she’s famous and has fans. If she feels or felt insecure, she has a right to say it.”

While Hale, of course, is entitled to her insecurities, there is still something to say about the platform she has and the effect a comment like “I was so fat” can have on her often young and impressionable audience. And, judging from the fact that she removed the comment, Hale probably acknowledges that mistake.

True VIBs know that bubble masks are one of the most buzzed about K-beauty trends on the planet right now—and now Lucy Hale has succumbed to the hype. In an Instagram video shared on her Instagram story, the Pretty Little Liars star documents the full, completely comical experience.

Anyone who’s tried one of the mask will be familiar with the way they fizz, Pop Rocks–style, into a carbonated bubble that supposedly helps ingredients to penetrate more deeply into your skin. They also delivery a really, really weird experience, as Hale quickly discovered.

“This is happening,” she says, pointing the camera at a jar of carbonated of the carbonated clay mask she’s about to apply. After layering it her face on off-camera, Hale comes back covered in a seemingly innocuous gray mask. Then the fun starts: “OK, it’s starting to bubble up,” she says. “Oh my God, it feels so weird!”

When she returns to the camera a final time, Hale’s face is literally covered in foaming gray bubbles. “If you listen really closely you can hear it bubbling,” she says, clearly amazed. “This is just too fun.” She ends her story with a still of her (seriously foamy) face, writing “OK, I’m done.” Because everyone on the Internet lives forever, you can watch a saved version of her experience here.

Yesterday, Hale Instagrammed a (seemingly) naked-faced selfie of her and her cute-ass dog, Elvis. She captioned it, “No, that’s not a stuffed animal. Yes, we’ve been laying here for hours.” The photo, of course, is already loaded with a million votes of approval, like one user who wrote, “You look so beautiful without makeup,” and another who commented, “You’re so beautiful. What the hell 😩.” And considering Hale looks, like, annoyingly great sans makeup, we gotta say we’re on the same page.

Obviously, there’s no way to know for sure if Hale really isn’t wearing a lick of makeup—but the selfie is a big departure from her signature smokey eyes and super-strong brows. Welp, we’ll see if the photo marks the beginning of a makeup-free run for the actress, but we’re foreseeing bright-blue extensions or a lip ring in a matter of days.

Amidst the barrage of celebrity hair changes we’ve seen over the last month, we’ve heard nothing but radio silence from Lucy Hale, a.k.a. the straight-up Hair Chameleon Queen. While her super-cool, jet-black bob has proven that warm weather doesn’t always call for lighter hues, we’ve still been itching for the “Pretty Little Liars” actress to show us something new.

So today, when we saw Hale on our Instagram feed boasting new chocolate-brown highlights, our hearts skipped a beat.

The 28-year-old took to the ‘gram this morning to reveal a balayage treatment subtly brightening up her dark hair. Hale’s go-to hairstylist is the super-talented Kristin Ess, but Vancouver-based Chris Weber is responsible for the actress’s new color. Hale captioned her selfie (which appears to be makeup-free), “My @kristin_ess of Vancouver is @chrisweberhair 👯 thank you thank you for being so sweet and warming up my locks 🌞.”

Hale’s hair change was definitely worth the wait because the low-key but refreshing new color is giving us total fall vibes. And we’re not the only ones fangirl-ing over it—Hale’s Instagram is already loaded with comments like, “How do u always rock any hairstyle?” and “Omfg what ur hair😍.”

Who knows, maybe Hale is about to pull a Bella Hadid and start a crazy, three-day streak of epic hair changes. But the highlights are so pretty that we’d be more than OK if this one sticks.

Lucy Hale Just Shut Down a Twitter Troll Who Called Her ‘Anorexic’

Lucy Hale has no time for body-shamers, so when a Twitter troll had the audacity to call her “anorexic,” she knew exactly what to say to shut him down. On Friday, the 28-year-old actress tweeted an adorable picture of her lounging in an armchair while looking up at the spotlight. She captioned the photo, “Don’t go into the light, Carol Anne.” (A nod to the 1982 horror film, “Poltergeist.”)

And though Hale’s selfie wasn’t unlike any other selfie on the internet, one Twitter user couldn’t keep his mouth shut and had to voice his opinion on why “no straight men” would find her attractive. “No straight men are signing off on that anorexic look—that’s for gay guys & fashionistas, we want you to please eat a hamburger,” Twitter user @TeddyHiFive wrote in a retweet of Hale’s picture.

https://twitter.com/lucyhale/status/911354540531658752

As an eating disorder survivor, the comment hit a chord with Hale, who had no problem clapping back on why the comment was ignorant and insensitive to those who struggle with anorexia.”As someone who used to struggle with anorexia, I don’t take these comments lightly. I’m healthy and happy and you don’t know me,” she tweeted.

In 2012, Hale opened up to Cosmopolitan about her struggle with anorexia and body image.“I’ve never really talked about this, but I would go days without eating,” she told the magazine. “Or maybe I’d have some fruit and then go to the gym for three hours. I knew I had a problem…it was a gradual process but I changed myself.”

Not knowing when to stop, the troll responded with a sassy, “Neat 👍🏼.” That’s when Hale went full-on boss mode to call him out for his cowardly and misogynistic behavior. “Just another insecure man hiding behind a computer screen. Boy BYE,” she tweeted back.

After the troll called her an “attention whore,” Hale shut down the conversation for good. “So keep your repulsive comments to yourself,” she tweeted.

Needless to say, all bodies are beautiful, and the troll’s claim that “no straight men” would find Hale attractive is idiotic and sexist. Hale’s body is her own and doesn’t exist for anyone—not her fans, not men, and definitely not body-shamers on the internet—but herself. What’s actually unattractive is the need to critique someone else.

We’re all guilty of harboring bad beauty habits, like falling asleep with makeup on or not drinking enough water. Some are easier to curb than others. And then there are those we routinely do and immediately regret. Pimple picking is at the top of that list.

There are a myriad of reasons we have trouble letting a blemish heal on its own, but the cold, hard truth remains: it’s just not a good idea. And more often than not, popping or picking a pimple usually leads to a dark spot that can take months to disappear. Spot treatments are chock full of antibacterial ingredients (salicylic acid, tea tree oil) that can diminish the infected area over a short period of time, but what can you do if those products don’t agree with your skin?

According to Lucy Hale, the answer is in your freezer (yes, seriously). As it turns out, the 28-year-old actress, best known for her role as Aria Montgomery on “Pretty Little Liars,” is also the beauty expert we never knew we needed. In a recent interview with E! News, she waxed poetic about her adorable bob haircut (“I needed a change. I had always used my hair as a security blanket”), but what really caught our attention is her totally attainable skin care advice.

Like us, the TV star isn’t immune from acne and other annoying skin issues, so she recommends a routine that includes double cleansing and vitamin C serum for brightening acne spots. Double cleansing involves using one cleanser (usually water-based) to remove makeup and grime, while a second one should act as a deep cleanser. Vitamin C is an all-star beauty ingredient, frequently spotlighted for its antioxidant (i.e. healing) properties and ability to brighten skin.

And if you do give in to a pimple and decide to pick it off, ice the spot overnight and cover it up with foundation or concealer to shrink the blemish. It may still take some time for the spot to completely disappear, but hydrating the infected area with a cool burst of water from an ice cube will certainly speed up the healing process.

It might have been Thanksgiving break last week, but that didn’t stop the internet trolls from focusing their attention on Lucy Hale‘s body. On Saturday, the 28-year-old actress was viciously body-shamed for an Instagram picture that several internet bullies deemed “too skinny.”

The photo showed the “Pretty Little Liars” star standing in her closet in blue jeans and a black t-shirt tied at her waist. Though the picture didn’t include a caption, trolls found a lot to talk about, particularly regarding her body.

The body-shamers primarily used words like “so thin” and “too skinny” to describe the actress, speculating that she could be in poor health because of her weight. The shamers also accused Hale of losing weight rapidly and asked her to “eat something” to bulk up. A few of the comments included:

“Please eat something baby girl 💖 ur so beautiful but you look so skinny.”

“Woow you really lost weight. I’ve been watching #PLL all 7 seasons in just 1 month and Im not used seeing you that slim.”

“Nooo too skinny 😦 you’re so beautiful but that doesn’t look healthy.”

As of yet, Hale hasn’t responded to the body-shamers—nor should she feel the need to. Body-shaming is never OK, something that seems especially pertinent given that Hale has suffered from an eating disorder in the past and has spoken out about the danger of calling people “thin” and “anorexic.”

No one knows better about Hale’s health than her, so body-shamers, keep your comments to yourself and stop speculating. Please.
