To celebrate 10 years, mark—Avon’s beauty and fashion boutique brand—has launched a magalog (magazine + catalog = magalog!) featuring “Pretty Little Liars” star and brand ambassador, Lucy Hale as its fresh-faced cover-girl.

The actress, who’s currently working on her debut album, will also appear in the brand’s digital platforms and take on the role of spokesperson for the “m.powerment by mark” campaign, a philanthropic effort that seeks to end the cycle of dating abuse and partner violence against young women.

“Lucy is the perfect example of our belief that there are no limits to what a woman can imagine or achieve,” said Meg Lerner, Global President of mark.

For her part, Hale said: “I’ve been a fan of mark’s products for years, but it was important to me to work with a brand that is truly about beauty on the inside and the outside.”

Hale’s makeup for the aptly-titled “10th Birthday Issue” was done by Fiona Stiles, who described the actress as a pleasure to work with. “She was really interested in all of the products …. what was that color and what is that product?” I think she’s as obsessed with makeup as I am!” And, probably, as obsessed as we are, too!

The issue launches August 9th.

Compared to last year (ahem Mileygate), tonight’s MTV Video Music Awards was basically a snoozefest. It’s no secret that we’re huge fans of “Pretty Little Liars” star Lucy Hale, and after seeing her step onto the carpet at the 2014 MTV Video Music Awards with two different looks, we’re even more enamored. The actress arrived at the VMAs wearing a full, wavy ponytail with tons of body at the crown, paired with a smokey eye and a nude lip (above). Then, seemingly minutes later, she reappeared to host the pre-show, with her hair down and her lips pink (below). The only thing that stayed the same was her eye makeup, which makes this quite possibly the most versatile smokey eye we’ve ever seen. Naturally, we needed the details so we could get the look ourselves.

Lucy Hale’s makeup artist, Kelsey Deenihan for mark. Cosmetics, created the night’s killer look and was instrumental in the quick change that took place. For Hale’s face, Deenihan used Armani Luminous Silk Foundation followed by mark. Great Finish Pressed Perfecting Powder in Light. She contoured Hale’s cheeks a bit with a darker shimmer powder, then highlighted her cheekbones with mark. Touch & Glow Shimmer Cream Cubes.

As for the goes-with-everything smokey eye, Deenihan used the mark. On the Dot Neutral Eye Color Compact. On the outer corners, she used the darkest shade in the compact, gradually lightening up towards the inside of the eye with lighter colors. Working with a darker color on the outer corners elongates the eye, giving them an almond shape. Underneath the eye, she smudged the darkest color from the compact, starting with a thicker line at the outer corners then lightly blending towards the inner corners of the eye. Then, to really emphasize the look, she used mark. No Place to Run Waterproof Eyeliner in Jet Set on the top and bottom water lines. Of course, no eye makeup look is complete without some serious mascara, so Deenihan applied a few generous coats of mark. Lash Act Mascara in Blackest Black.

Hale’s lip was the main makeup change of the evening. For the first nude look, Deenihan applied mark. Glossworks Longwear Lip Gloss in Roseland. Once she changed into her pink Oscar de la Renta dress (below), Hale wore mark. Glossworks in Tempest, a bright magenta. Both lip colors look amazing with her smokey eye, but which do you like best? Our favorite “Pretty Little Liars” actress (and country singer) Lucy Hale is always one of our must-watch celebrities on the red carpet, as she loves to try out a bold beauty look. For last night’s American Music Awards, she definitely went bold, opting for a gorgeous wine lip that her makeup artist Kelsey Deenihan nicknamed “goth goddess.” Kristin Ess, her hairstylist, played up her new textured blunt bob haircut to complement her embellished Vera Wang dress and the rich, dark lip look.

Deenihan, using mostly mark. products, gave us the breakdown on the look below (as well as an exclusive behind-the-scenes photo of Lucy getting ready) so you can copy the look yourself.

For the Face: I started out by prepping Lucy’s skin with a thin veil of Murad Hydrodynamic Moisturizing Cream followed by Armani Luminous Silk Foundation in #6. I then applied mark. Super Conceal Full Coverage Concealer in ‘very light’ underneath her eyes to brighten the skin. This concealer is great for a long awards show day because it stays put and doesn’t crease over time! To contour the cheeks I used mark. Glowdacious Illuminating Powder in Amped Up and added mark. Touch & Glow to the apples of her cheeks for a subtle shine and glow.

For the Eyes: To start the eyes I used mark. All Time Eye Longwear Shadow in Tender Love over Lucy’s entire lid. Since we were planning on a dark lip I wanted to keep the shadow on the eyes to a simple wash of a light champagne color to catch the light but not distract from the lips. Next I took mark. No Place to Run Waterproof Eyeliner in Jet Set to the top and bottom water lines to really define the eyes and make them pop. With a small blending brush I then blended the liner a little into her lashes on the top and outer corners elongating the eye shape. To finish the eyes I added a couple generous coats of mark. Lash Act Build and Define Mascara the top and bottom lashes.

And, for the Dark Lips: For the lips I used Chanel lip liner in 09 and filled in the entire lip to define and act as a lipstick primer. Once the dark liner was all over the lips I used mark. Lipclick Full Color Lipstick in Whiney as well as Hot & Spicy. The advantage of mixing your lip color is you can customize it to your various needs– your mood, skin color, outfit, etc.

In our latest video series, we’ve decided to put beauty skills to the test. We’ll be asking some of our favorites celebrities and beauty stars to put their skills to the test, and see if they pass our beauty challenge.

The adorable Lucy Hale is pretty well known for her gorgeous brunette locks and always spot-on makeup looks, which is predictably why she’s been the face of mark. girl for years now. The second the Pretty Little Liars star chopped her locks, we all wanted to the copy the look – and every time Lucy rocks a new and different bold lip color, we need to know what it is.

We decided to see just how handy she was in actually applying that lipstick herself – with a blindfold on – because well, if you can do that, you’re truly a lipstick aficionado. As major “Pretty Little Liars” fans here at Beauty High, you know we have our eyes on the show’s stars – and given the fact that you can hardly read a magazine or turn on the TV without seeing one of them, we’re constantly on watch. Lucy Hale was of course spotted at the CMAs last night (she is working on her very own country album after all) and was gorgeous, per usual. We talked to her makeup artist about the look – since it’s one that just about anyone could wear on their next night out.

Makeup artist Kelsey Deenihan said that since Lucy was wearing such a gorgeous pastel flowy dress, she knew she had to make her makeup look both glamorous and standout, but not let it overpower the sweetness of the overall look. So, they decided to let her eyes be the focus, and drew inspiration from the colors in the dress. Below, Kelsey breaks down how she got the look.

“I began by prepping her skin with Nourish moisturizer by Lancer Skincare. This product soaks into the skin leaving it hydrated throughout the night allowing the makeup to continually look even and fresh. For Lucy’s skin, I mixed Armani Luminous Silk Foundation in 5 and 5.5 and applied it with a fluffy brush working from the center of her face outward. For any areas that needed extra coverage and to brighten under the eyes, I used Cle de Peau concealer in Ivory. Next I applied mark Just Blushing Powder Blush in Cameo to create a deep contour and topped off the cheeks with the pinks of the mark Wonder Glow Blush & Glow All Over Face Palette.  I swept it high across Lucy’s cheekbones allowing the subtle shimmer to illuminate her skin.”

“To make Lucy’s eyes pop, I used the mark 10 Year Anniversary Eye Shadow Palette in the left two colors (the M and A) all over her lid. I lined the top and bottom with both mark No Place to Run Longwear Eyeliner in Jet Set and Foxy Brown. For the inner corners of her eyes, I used the white shade (on the far right) of the mark 10 Year Anniversary Eye Shadow Palette. The brightness in the corners or her eyes allows the shadow to catch the light and reflect it and makes Lucy’s eyes appear larger. I finished her eyes with two generous coats of mark Scanda-Lash mascara in Blackest Black.”

“To finish Lucy’s look, I applied mark Make It Rich Lip Crayon in Naturally. This sweet peachy pink allows the focus to be on her eyes, but also compliments her dress and her overall look.”

One of our favorite “Pretty Little Liars,” Lucy Hale, is of course so multi-talented that she is well on her way to releasing a country album of her own. During the winter premiere of PLL last night the actress debuted the first single of her album, You Sound Good to Me. The catchy love song features Hale on a roadtrip with friends, falling in love – and sporting that perfect effortless beauty to go along with it (and flawless hair of course).

Celebrity makeup artist Kelsey Deenihan created her fresh beauty look for her first-ever music video, and told us how to get the look below:

Face: I started by prepping the skin with Murad Hydrodynamic Moisturizer all over Lucy’s face and neck and then applying Armani Luminous Silk Foundation in a mixture of shade 5 and 5.5. By applying the base directly after moisturizer it allows the foundation to mix with the moisturizer and create a sheer coverage. The sheer fresh coverage is what we wanted since we’re not going for an over the top glamours look.

Cheeks: On Lucy’s cheeks I applied Mark. Just Pinched Instant Blush Tint in both Nude and Peachy to add a bit of a flush to the skin. I applied the tint straight from the stick to the cheeks and then blended where needed with my finger. To add some additional glow to the cheeks I used the Mark. That’s Brilliant Face and Eye Illuminator on the cheekbones. This product comes with its own brush, however, I squeezed some of the illuminator onto the back of my hand and dipped a sponge in it to apply it to Lucy’s cheekbones. By dabbing onto the cheeks with a sponge I was able to place the product on top of the blush tint and not move around any existing color.

Eyes: I filled in Lucy’s already full brows with Votre Vu Arch de Triumph eyebrow definer in Warm. I wanted to give them a bold shape to really frame her eyes. Staying with the neutral colors, I used Mark. On the Dot Neutral Eye Color Compact for Lucy’s eyes. I used the bottom three colors of the palette and blended the metallic colors together. I started with the bottom right color all over the lids and crease and then went back in with the bottom middle and left colors in the outer corners and crease to add definition to the eyes. I placed Mark. No Place to Run Longwear Eyeliner in Foxy Brown on the top and bottom lash line and blended it with a small dome brush to avoid any harsh lines. I topped off the eyes with Mark. Scanda Lash Mascara in Black on both the top and bottom lashes. 

Lips: Lucy’s lips were very natural for this look but I wanted to give them a small hint of color. I used Mark. Make it Rich Lip Color Crayon in Punch and applied it very lightly to give just a little tint to her natural lips. No gloss or liner were used to avoid looking to dolled up for this day out in the country.

On any given day, if you ask us for hair inspiration, we’ll likely show you about 100 braids. Plaits have been dominating runways and red carpets alike for seasons now, and from the looks of the most recent braids we’ve spotted on the red carpet, they’re not going anywhere anytime soon. Lucy Hale hit the red carpet for the screening of the finale of “Pretty Little Liars” wearing a gorgeous fishtail braid, styled to the side. Leaving some loose volume out at the top and gently pulling apart the hair down the braid, she’s the epitome of “cool girl chic.”

Lena Headey was at the premiere of “Game of Thrones” proving that you don’t need long hair to rock a braid. Hairstylist Mark Townsend for Dove applied Oxygen Moisture Leave in Foam to enhance her natural wave, then braided the side of her hair, tucking it underneath to finish the look.

At the premiere of “Divergent,” Bella Thorne wore her hair  to one side, weaving in a few small braids for added intrigue. This look is all about the intrigue, and we love the fun little details from the braids. Bonus points: She nailed that orange eyeshadow.

At the premiere of “Game of Thrones,” Sophie Turner brought her braid A-game with an almost hidden style. Sweeping hair to one side and braiding the other against her head, we can barely look at this for 10 seconds without immediately trying to recreate it on ourselves.
